On Friday, Kate co-presents “The Increased Need for Academic and Industry Partnerships – Collaborative Research Efforts in Today’s Climate.” Description:

The escalating challenges to federal funding sources for universities and academic medical centers require a refreshed look at how research is supported and the importance of partnerships between academia and industry. Academia is not the only sector hurt by the decreased federal research grants–industry, which relies heavily on the early-stage innovation of academic partners, also stands to lose opportunities as academic research stalls and suffers from a lack of support. This session will highlight ways in which academic and industry partners can collaborate even further upstream in the research and technology landscape to create a value proposition for all stakeholders. Approaches to structuring deals between academia and industry, how to balance IP rights, and ways to foster stronger partnerships will be explored.

On Friday, Hemant co-presents “AI Rx — Navigating the Maze of Healthcare Algorithms.” Topics include:

  • Data Governance at the Intersection of Innovation and Regulation: Balancing AI advancement with patient privacy and compliance frameworks
  • Building Secure and Ethical Data-Sharing Agreements: Strategies for HIPAA compliance and key contractual elements
  • Intellectual Property in AI Development: Ownership rights for models trained on patient data and innovation vs. public health
  • Practical Frameworks for Responsible Data Use: Actionable guidelines for aligning innovation with regulatory requirements
  • Data and Model Ownership Strategies: Training scenarios, revenue-sharing models, and joint IP development considerations
