Washington, DC (October 31, 2017) – As part of the firm’s celebration of Diversity Awareness Month in October, Epstein Becker Green (EBG) honored Chief Judge Eric T. Washington, with the firm’s “Make a Difference” Award during its annual Diversity Reception on October 25.
Chief Judge Washington recently retired after completing his third consecutive term as Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and is currently serving as a Senior Judge on the Court. During his terms as Chief Judge, he also served as Chair of the Joint Committee on Judicial Administration for the District of Columbia. Prior to his appointment as Chief Judge, he was an Associate Judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals and, before that, served as Trial Judge on the D.C. Superior Court.
Chief Judge Washington has been a strong advocate for expanding access to legal representation for all people. He worked with the D.C. Access to Justice Commission to increase attorney access for low- and middle-income D.C. residents and to also expand access to interpreter services for those with limited English proficiency. He is a prior President of the Conference of Chief Justices of the United States and formerly served as Chair of the Board for the National Center for State Courts. Chief Judge Washington currently serves on the Advisory Board for the National Center for State Courts as the organization continues to effectuate change by engaging the courts to improve legal services and accessibility for disenfranchised communities.
Additionally, Chief Judge Washington has been extremely active in many professional, civic, and charitable organizations. He presently serves as a Neutral for the McCammon Group and is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington Foundation and the Public Welfare Foundation.
