Law.com, “6 Health Care Litigators Jump from Manatt to Epstein Becker Green in 3 Cities,” by Thomas Spigolon.

Epstein Becker Green has grown its health care and business litigation capabilities on the West Coast and Midwest after adding a six-attorney team from Manatt Phelps & Phillips today, the firm announced Monday.

Charles Weir, Megan Thibert-Ind, Andrew Beshai, Colin McGrath and Rebecca Finkel joined as members of the firm, while Carolyn Sharzer joined as an associate.

The additions are part of an overall growth strategy for the firm in such core practice areas as healthcare and litigation that also brings the Am Law Second Hundred firm attorneys with experience in both areas, a spokesperson said.

Thibert-Ind said she believed the group decided to move for a number of reasons.

“The first is their platform, particularly in health care, is very complementary to our practice, especially to the extent we're doing a lot of work with providers and hospitals and hospital systems and life sciences companies,” she said. "Having a firm with so much strength, and their bench in that area, was a big draw for us.

Epstein Becker Green's commitment to litigation was also a key factor, according to Thibert-Ind, who noted that in early conversations, leadership "referred to litigation as being the connective tissue across the firm.”

Thibert-Ind told Law360 Pulse that she and her group were impressed with Epstein Becker's work in the healthcare, regulatory and litigation spaces, and hope to bring their own expertise to assist the firm's existing clients, along with providing additional services to the clients they will bring with them.

"We saw an opportunity to help service and grow those existing relationships, and then also bring to the firm the relationships that we have developed," Thibert-Ind said.

The additions of Thibert-Ind, Finkel, McGrath, Beshai, Sharzer and Weir—who will also assume a new role as Co-Chair of the Firm’s National Litigation Steering Committee alongside Weibust—reflect Epstein Becker Green’s continued investment in trial attorneys that enhance the firm’s experience and visibility in matters involving litigation and business disputes, particularly in health care and highly regulated industries.
