September 23, 2025 – Epstein Becker Green is pleased to announce that former Assistant U.S. Attorney and founding member of the U.S. Attorney’s Health Care Fraud Task Force for the Middle District of Florida, Jack E. Fernandez, has joined the firm’s distinguished Health Care and Life Sciences (HCLS) practice.

Fernandez has over two decades of experience defending individuals and organizations in pivotal white collar criminal matters and civil litigation, including in complex False Claims Act (FCA) investigations.

“Jack is the attorney you want on your team when you’re in high-stakes health care litigation and white-collar investigations,” said Mark E. Lutes, Chair of Epstein Becker Green’s Board of Directors. “His insight into how government cases are built, and how they can be avoided or defeated, strengthens our ability to guide clients through heightened enforcement risk with confidence.”

“Jack’s proactive, trial-ready approach emphasizes early risk assessment and targeted advocacy to mitigate exposure for our clients,” said Kathleen Premo, Member of the Firm in Epstein Becker Green’s HCLS practice and Managing Partner of the firm’s Tampa and St. Petersburg offices. “In addition, his extensive federal trial experience, his credibility, and his deep network of relationships in Tampa and Central Florida are invaluable in securing practical resolutions to even the most complex cases.”

Described by Chambers USA as “fearless, devoted, and tenacious,” Fernandez defends health care providers, life sciences companies, executives, and boards in government investigations and litigation involving alleged kickbacks, billing and coding practices, off-label promotion, and related fraud and abuse issues. He tried the first criminal anti-kickback health care case to a jury verdict in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and he has tried and won jury and bench trials in federal court and argued and won federal appeals. He has also won several FCA cases on motions to dismiss before discovery began.

“I’m excited to bring my practice to the excellent, collaborative, and industry-focused team that I’ve known Epstein Becker Green to have for years,” said Fernandez. “The firm’s deep bench in health care elevates the work I provide for clients navigating government scrutiny, and I am confident that their national platform offers extraordinary positioning to resolve matters in the most expeditious and favorable way possible.”

Fernandez earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif, and his B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy. Before entering private practice, he served as a U.S. Navy F-14 fighter pilot aboard the USS Independence, flying combat missions in support of Multinational Force in Lebanon and during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada.

At Epstein Becker Green, Fernandez joins a highly regarded litigation, government enforcement, and investigations team serving clients across the health care industry. The firm’s HCLS practice is nationally ranked among “The Elite” by Chambers USA and serves clients across the health care ecosystem, including providers, payers, life sciences innovators, and investors.
